The continuity of the type is the residual possibility reduced to its essential form. The traditional structures that once shaped and protected the higher man have collapsed. What remains is the capacity of certain individuals to realize the same quality of being without those structures. The type itself becomes the carrier of the Tradition. Continuity no longer depends on institutions or collective forms. It depends on the man who is still capable of embodying the permanent measure.
Young men who feel the weight of the age often look for continuity in external restorations or in groups that claim to preserve something of the past. Those efforts can have limited value as temporary supports. They cannot replace the interior continuity that the differentiated individual must establish for himself. The age will continue to dissolve external forms. The man who places his orientation in those forms will be dissolved with them.
The work is therefore the daily maintenance of the type under conditions that give it no encouragement. This maintenance is not a private aesthetic or a personal preference. It is the concrete expression of a higher order of reality that the cycle has not been able to extinguish. Every act that remains faithful to the measure is an act of continuity. Every refusal of the horizontal substitutes is an act of continuity.
Continue the applications already established. Strengthen the interior axis. The continuity of the type is realized in the man who does not abandon the measure when the external world offers nothing in return. That man is already the residual continuity. He does not need to wait for a more favorable age in order to begin.
