The form that survives collapse is the residual form of the differentiated individual. Traditional forms of order, rank, and initiation have largely disappeared as living realities. What remains is the possibility of a man who continues to form himself according to the permanent measure. That formation is the residual survival of the higher type under residual conditions.
The age continually announces the end of every higher form. The announcement is itself a dissolving force. The residual path does not accept the announcement as final. It continues the work of interior formation. The work does not restore the lost structures. It preserves the type that once inhabited those structures. The preservation is the residual continuity.
Young men who sense the collapse often conclude that nothing higher remains possible. The residual path rejects that conclusion. The higher remains possible in the residual form of the man who still orients himself by it. The possibility is narrower than in traditional ages. It is still real for the man capable of realizing it.
Form yourself according to the measure that survives the collapse. Do not wait for structures that the cycle has already exhausted. The man who continues the residual formation is already living the deeper continuity of the type.
