The residual center continues to function after every external center that once ordered the world has been dissolved. The residual man continues to orient himself from that interior pole even though the age offers no shared axis and no collective confirmation. The center itself remains unbroken. Only the public structures that once made it visible have disappeared.
Young men who still feel the need for a fixed point often look for residual authorities or residual communities that will serve as centers for them. Most of those authorities have already been pulled into the horizontal currents of the age. The residual path does not wait for external poles. It maintains the center from the interior position that still perceives its necessity.
This interior center is the residual form of the older traditional axis that once connected the individual to higher orders of being. The man who keeps it effective already performs the residual polar function. That function does not require collective recognition to remain real.
Hold the residual center. Do not wait for the age to restore structures capable of supporting a public axis. The residual act is to keep the permanent pole present in a world that moves only horizontally. That presence is the continuity of the higher type under residual conditions.
