Day 255 — Action in the Residual Field

"Action retains its higher quality when it is performed from the permanent center even though the field in which it occurs has been reduced to residual conditions." — Julius Evola, Ride the Tiger

Action in the residual field continues after every collective horizon that once gave action its higher meaning has been erased. The residual man continues to act from the interior measure even though the age offers no confirming results and no shared purpose. The quality of the action remains the same. Only the collective environment that once amplified it has disappeared.

Young men who still sense the need for higher action often look for residual causes or residual struggles that will give their effort external weight. Most of those causes have already been reshaped by the horizontal forces that dominate the age. The residual path does not wait for favorable terrain. It continues to act from the permanent center that remains available.

This independent action is the residual form of the older traditional deed that once ordered both the individual and the higher functions of a civilization. The man who keeps acting from that center already performs the residual duty. That duty does not require a collective horizon to remain real.

Act in the residual field. Do not wait for the age to restore conditions in which higher action is publicly recognized. The residual act is to keep the permanent measure effective in every concrete decision. That effectiveness is the continuity of the higher type.
