Day 282 — Residual Continuity of the Higher Type

"Continuity of the higher type does not require the survival of the conditions that once made that continuity collective. It continues in the man who still forms himself according to the permanent criteria." — Julius Evola, Ride the Tiger

Residual continuity of the higher type continues after every collective continuity of higher order has been broken. The residual man continues as the permanent type even though the age offers no confirming environment and no shared succession. The type itself remains intact. Only the collective structures that once transmitted it have disappeared.

Young men who still seek continuity of the higher type often look for residual schools or residual lineages that will transmit the type for them. Most of those lineages have already been reshaped by the horizontal forces that dominate the age. The residual path does not wait for external transmission. It continues as the permanent type from the interior center that still holds the vertical measure.

This solitary continuity is the residual form of the older traditional continuity that once ordered both the individual and the civilization. The man who remains the type already performs the residual act. That act does not require a collective succession to remain real.

Continue as the higher type. Do not wait for the age to restore conditions in which the higher type is publicly transmitted. The residual act is to keep the permanent measure of the type effective in every concrete decision. That effectiveness is the residual continuity of the higher type under residual conditions.
