Day 320 — Residual Rank Without Position

"Rank does not disappear with the external stations that once expressed it. It continues as the residual hierarchy of the man who still holds the measure." — Julius Evola, Ride the Tiger

Residual rank without position is the capacity to maintain interior hierarchy after every external hierarchy of higher order has been leveled. The residual man continues to live from that rank even though the age offers no confirming station. The rank itself remains intact. Only the external stations that once made its order public have disappeared.

Young men who still sense a higher order of being often look for residual positions or residual groups that will keep the rank alive around them. Most of those groups have already been emptied by the horizontal forces that dominate the age. The residual path does not wait for external station. It continues as the permanent hierarchy from the interior center that still holds the vertical measure.

This solitary rank is the residual form of the older traditional knowledge of hierarchical being. The man who continues to live from it already performs the residual act. That act does not require external stations to remain real.

Live from rank. Do not wait for the age to restore conditions in which higher hierarchy is publicly recognized. The residual act is to keep the permanent measure decisive in every concrete relation. That decisiveness is the continuity of the higher type under residual conditions.
