Proof of the type is the lived evidence that a higher form of man can still exist inside a world built to prevent him. Argument does not prove the type. Style of speech does not prove it. The proof is conduct under pressure: how the body is held, how work is done, how desire is governed, how solitude is borne. The age can refute a theory. It cannot refute a man who remains inwardly ranked.
Young men want the proof to be visible and immediate. They want a victory that would settle the matter in public. The residual proof is slower and less theatrical. It accumulates in years of unadvertised consistency. A man who keeps form for a decade in a dissolving environment has already answered the only question that matters.
This solitary proof is the residual form of the older traditional knowledge of ordeal. Ordeal once took place in initiation and war. It now takes place in the ordinary day, where nothing sacred appears to be at stake and everything is. The man who treats the ordinary day as ordeal already performs the residual act.
Become the proof. Do not ask the age to certify you. The residual act is to make the higher type visible in the only place it can still be seen: one life held to a measure the world no longer uses. That life is the argument.
