Day 154 — What the Type Retains

"Even when every external support has been withdrawn, the higher type retains the capacity to orient himself according to the permanent measure." — Julius Evola, Ride the Tiger

What the type retains is the essential possibility that the sequence has been clarifying. The traditional world supplied rank, sacred confirmation, and a hierarchy of forms. Those supplies are exhausted. The capacity to live according to a higher measure is not exhausted. It remains available to the man who is still capable of it. That capacity is the residual possession of the differentiated individual.

The age works continuously to convince the higher type that nothing is retained. Softness, leveling, and the cult of sensation all present themselves as the only remaining realities. The residual type refuses the presentation. He continues to form the body, the speech, the attention, and the will according to the permanent standard. Each continuation demonstrates that the capacity has not been lost.

Young men who have reached this depth of the sequence already possess evidence of retention. The evidence is practical. It is the difference between the days in which the measure was kept and the days in which it was allowed to lapse. The kept days prove the residual capacity. The lapsed days prove only the continuing pressure of the dissolution.

Act on what is retained. Do not wait for the age to restore what it has taken. The man who exercises the residual capacity is already in possession of the only continuity that still matters. That possession is the victory of the type under residual conditions.
