Action from the residual center is action that still refers to the permanent measure after every collective center has withdrawn. The residual man does not invent a private center of his own choosing. He continues to act from the same vertical orientation that once ordered traditional life. The orientation is no longer supported by institutions. It is still the only orientation that preserves the higher type.
The residual center is not a feeling and not a mood. It is the concrete capacity to judge and to act according to a measure the residual world neither supplies nor confirms. The man who possesses it moves inside the residual field without being rewritten by it. The man who lacks it is already carried by the residual current.
Young men often treat the residual center as a form of self-invention or as a psychological construct. The residual path rejects both readings. The center is not invented. It is recovered and then held under conditions that no longer favor its presence. The recovery is the residual form of the older initiatory work.
Act from the residual center. Do not demand that the residual world restore the collective supports that once made such action easier. The man who continues to act from that center already lives the residual form of the higher order.
