Day 221 — Residual Sovereignty of the Self

"Sovereignty continues as an interior reality when every external form of sovereignty has been leveled by the cycle." — Julius Evola, Men Among the Ruins

Sovereignty must now be residual. External sovereignty has dissolved. The residual man continues to govern himself according to the permanent measure even though no collective structure recognizes that government. The sovereignty remains real because it is rooted in the vertical criterion, not in social power.

Young men who still sense the demand of sovereignty often look for residual domains in which they can exercise external control. Most of those domains have already been shaped by the forces of the age. The residual path does not depend on external domains. It continues the interior government without waiting for recognition.

This residual sovereignty is the residual form of the older royal and hierarchical principle that once ordered traditional societies. The man who keeps it present already carries the residual kingship of the self. That kingship does not require a throne to remain effective.

Govern yourself according to the permanent measure. Do not wait for the age to restore external forms of sovereignty that the cycle has already exhausted. The residual act is to keep the vertical government present in a world that has abolished it. That presence is the continuity of the higher type.
