Quality must now exist without recognition. The residual man continues to form himself according to the permanent standard of quality even though the age offers no recognition for that formation. The quality remains real because it is rooted in the vertical criterion, not in collective acknowledgment.
Young men who still pursue quality often look for residual audiences or groups that will confirm their effort. Most of those audiences have already adjusted their standards to the requirements of the age. The residual path does not seek such confirmation. It continues the formation of quality without waiting for recognition.
This unrecognized quality is the residual form of the older hierarchical quality that once ordered traditional civilizations from the top. The man who keeps forming it already carries the residual distinction. That distinction does not require an audience to remain effective.
Form quality without recognition. Do not wait for the age to restore structures capable of acknowledging higher standards. The residual act is to keep the permanent measure of quality present in a world that has abolished it. That presence is the continuity of the higher type.
