Residual force continues after every collective power that once carried higher force has been leveled. The residual man continues to act from a center that the age neither supplies nor recognizes. The force remains real because it is rooted in the type, not in the temporary instruments of a civilization.
Young men who still sense the need for force often look for residual movements or residual organizations that will supply it for them. Most of those organizations have already been reshaped by the same horizontal forces that dominate the age. The residual path does not wait for external concentration of force. It continues to draw upon the permanent source from the interior center that still perceives its authority.
This interior force is the residual form of the older traditional power that once ordered the higher functions of a civilization. The man who keeps that force present already performs the residual act. That act does not require a collective horizon to remain effective.
Maintain residual force. Do not wait for the age to restore conditions in which higher force can be publicly concentrated. The residual act is to keep the permanent source effective in a world that systematically disperses every vertical concentration. That effectiveness is the continuity of the higher type.
