Interior continuity continues after every external continuity of higher forms has been broken. The residual man continues to maintain the permanent orientation even though the age offers no confirming structures and no shared transmission. The continuity itself remains intact. Only the collective vehicles that once carried it have disappeared.
Young men who still feel the need for continuity often look for residual institutions or residual lineages that will supply it from outside. Most of those institutions have already been reshaped by the same forces that dissolved the older forms. The residual path does not wait for external transmission. It continues the continuity from the interior center that still perceives the permanent axis.
This solitary continuity is the residual form of the older traditional transmission that once ordered both the individual and the higher functions of a civilization. The man who keeps that continuity present already performs the residual act. That act does not require a collective horizon to remain real.
Maintain interior continuity under dissolution. Do not wait for the age to restore conditions in which higher forms are publicly continuous. The residual act is to keep the permanent measure effective in a world that systematically breaks every vertical transmission. That effectiveness is the continuity of the higher type.
