He continues as that reality even though the age offers no confirming world. The type itself remains intact. Only the collective forms that once made its presence public have disappeared.
Young men who still sense the possibility of the higher type often look for residual worlds or residual communities that will keep it alive around them. Most of those communities have already been emptied by the horizontal forces that dominate the age. The residual path does not wait for external world. It continues as the permanent reality from the interior center that still holds the vertical measure.
This solitary reality is the residual form of the older traditional knowledge of qualitative being. The man who continues as the type already performs the residual act. That act does not require collective forms to remain real.
Remain the higher type. Do not wait for the age to restore conditions in which the higher type is collectively possible. The residual act is to keep the permanent measure decisive in every concrete relation. That decisiveness is the continuity of the higher type under residual conditions.
