The task after the forms is the work that remains when every traditional support has gone: to keep the type intact as a living fact. Doctrine, rite, caste, and empire were supports. They were never the whole of Tradition. Tradition is a vertical orientation of being. When the supports fall, the orientation either continues in a man or it ends with the supports.
Young men who see the fallen forms often choose one of two errors. They try to rebuild the scenery and call the scenery a world. Or they declare that nothing remains and give themselves to the current. Both errors spare them the actual task. The actual task is narrower and harder. It is the daily conservation of a type in conditions that do not want that type.
This solitary task is the residual form of the older traditional knowledge of fidelity. Fidelity was once given to a visible order. It is now given to the measure itself. The man who remains faithful to that measure already performs the residual act. He keeps something in the world that the world can no longer produce.
Take the task after the forms. Do not waste the years on scenery and do not use collapse as permission. The residual act is to keep the higher type real in one life. That reality is the whole of what this phase still allows, and it is enough to bind a man.
