Day 341 — Interior Empire

"Empire is first a spiritual form. Where the outer empire has vanished, the form can still be realized as an interior order." — Julius Evola, Revolt Against the Modern World

Interior empire is the capacity to maintain order, hierarchy, and command inside a single life after every public empire of Traditional form has fallen. Empire in the higher sense was never only land and administration. It was a spiritual form: a center that radiated law. The outer empires of that kind are gone. The form can still be realized as an interior order.

Young men who feel the imperial instinct often look for residual empires to serve or to imitate. Service to a horizontal power is not the same act as carrying imperial form. Imitation of dead grandeur is costume. The residual path builds empire where it can still be built: in the government of impulse, time, speech, and work. A man who cannot rule himself has no empire.

This solitary order is the residual form of the older traditional knowledge of sacred rule. The emperor stood as the living axis of a world. The differentiated man now stands as the living axis of a life. The scale has changed. The principle has not. The man who keeps inner command already performs the residual act.

Rule the interior first. Do not wait for a public order worthy of your loyalty before you impose order on yourself. The residual act is to keep a hierarchy of ends inside one life and to enforce it daily. That enforcement is empire under residual conditions.
